Model Order Reduction

Winter Term 2017/18

Organizer Dr. Jan ter Maten
Type Lecture and Discuss exercises (4 SWS) The course comprises 4h lectures and discuss exercises per week. The course will be given in English language.
Target audience Students from "Computer Simulation in Science", master students of applied and numerical mathematics but also students from atmospheric modeling.
Prerequisite Analysis I-II, Linear Algebra I-II, Numerical Analysis of Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations.
Credits The course consists of two lectures per week and gives 9 credit points.
Abstract The topic receives a lot of attention in recent research. The AMNA Group strongly participates in national and EU research projects on these topics. Results from these projects will be presented during the courses.
  Model Order Reduction aims to reduce subsystems in size such that faster simulations can be made while preserving the accuracy of requested output. Uncertainty Quantification is a modern approach to efficiently provide statistical output and sensitivity to parameter variations.
The MOR part will cover the topis:
  • State-space formulations
  • Krylov methods
  • Balanced Truncation
  • Parameterized Model Order Reduction
  • MOR for nonlinear problems
  • MOR for Uncertainty Quantification
